Keep your eyes peeled for new Healthy Nail Tips. To kick things off let's start with a healthy base, our cuticles.
For the non nailophiles out there, the cuticle is the skin that grows at the base of the nail and sometimes over the nail. Often when getting a manicure service your nail tech will trim off the excess cuticle which creates the appearance of a longer nail bed. In most cases this is fine, but not really necessary.
Cuticle oil is applied to the base of the nail and massaged in to help restore moisture lost during everyday wear and tear. Applying cuticle oil actually helps to not only retain moisture, but when used consistently can also help to prevent dry brittle, and peeling nails, as well as help to strengthen the natural nail. Certain oils can also help to treat fungal infections due to their astringent and antibacterial nature. It is important to note that if you do think that you have a fungal infection you should seek medical advice. Although most nail techs are trained to spot nail fungus, they are not doctors and therefore can not diagnose you. Some people have eczema of the nail which can look like fungas as well
If your cuticles are over chopped, or really dry this can lead to painful hangnails and who really wants that. Hang nails are like paper cuts you can't stop picking at.
So, what do you do? Cuticle oil to the rescue! If you are prown to hang nails or had an overly agressive nail service, start using cuticle oil now. Even if you're not prone to hang nails, like me, the use of cuticle oil will leave you with healthier, more beautiful hands.
How do you use it? Well, it's super simple and you can easily fit it in to your morning/evenig routines. Place a drop of cuticle oil at the base of each nail and massage in. Literally 5 seconds and your done. Rub the excess into your hands for softer skin and boom added bonus right there. Do this twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night.
Do you get alot of hangnails? Have another trick to get rid of them, add it to the comments section. Oh, and don't forget to share this post with your friends!
Caio for now,
