Wear your Gloves

Remember to keep your eyes peeled for more HTN (Healthy Nail Tips), or just get them delivered right to you by clicking on our RRS feed button.

It must be important if I mention it again! Ya, it's really important to protect your hands from harsh detergents and yes cold temperatures and wind, as well.

You wouldn't pull a hot tray from the oven without oven mitts. So don't forget to protect your delicate hands in the cold too. Your digitz going numb and getting frost bitten is not a good scene for anyone.

When you're out in the cold for an extended period of time blood flow to extremeties can become restricted. This means that your hands and feet, fingers and toes, are not feeling the love. And when poor circulation meets damn cold with no glove love, you could be in for a little frostbite.

Now you're thinking my hands didn't turn blue or black or fall off, so it can't be frostbite. They're just a little cold; It's not frostbite, right? Wrong. Mild frostbite aka frostnip makes your skin turn yellowish or white. It doesn't feel all frozen, maybe just really cold, and it's still soft to the touch. Your fingers might feel numb when you try to hold anything. Your skin turns a bit red during the warming process and returns to normal when you are all warmed up. So ya, if you're anything like me, you've had mild frostbite alot.

Now hopefully you never experience severe frostbite because I want you to keep all your phalanges. Severe frostebite is down right ugly. If it is not treated right away permanent nerve damage can occur causing the skin to become discolored and black. If nerve damage becomes severe you lose feeling and get blisters on the frostbitten area. Worse yet broken skin can become infected leaving you open to gangrene which can result in the loss of those beautiful, totally necessary and useful phalanges. Not the phalanges! Just wear gloves, kay.

What do I do? I've got frostbite!

Now luckily if you should be suffering from mild frostbite right now, there are two things you can do about it.

1). Passive Warming.

Passive warming is when you warm your whole body by moving into a warm room, get a blanket around yourself or use skin to skin contact with someone who is warm.

2). Active Warming

Active warming is when you add heat directly to the frostbitten area. You want to thaw the skin as quickly as possible without burning yourself so place your hands in water that is slightly warmer than body tepurature. Be warned though, do not rub or massage the frostbitten area as this can cause further damage.

If you have severe frostbite, call a doctor cause you need immediate medical attention!

Wear appropriate clothing

You know what's cool? Not freezing your ass off cause wearing gloves or mitts cramps your style. You can still look great and dress for the weather. If you're running low on ideas just rev up the google machine or check out pinterest. I am absolutely in love with cute leather gloves, long, short, it doesn't matter I love em. These cute leather gloves are my new must haves for the season.

Real or fake , you can still keep warm. Synthetic and wool fabrics provide great insulation. Some synthetic fabrics are even designed to keep you really dry by wicking sweat away from your body, helping to keep you nice and toasty inside out.

Dressing in layers is best. Great excuse to get that shirt in all the colors. When you dress in layers you can always remove a layer if you're too warm or add it back on if you get cold. Make sure your final layer is wind and wet proof.

Wear it all. Warm socks, gloves , scarf and a hat to keep all of you warm.

If you get wet, get changed! Staying in wet clothes causes you to lose heat faster.

Keep Your Nails Healthy During The Cold Winter Months

During the cold winter season skin and nails are exposed to freezing temperatures and harsh winds, which can leave you with dried out brittle nails.

Everything seems to slow down in the winter months, including how quickly your nails grow. When growth of your nails slow down, the healing process also slows down. So what I'm trying to say is that prevention is key here. Take care of your nails now.

Keep your nails clean and dry to prevent bacteria from growing under the nail and causing damage.

Hydration please. Drinking water helps to support healthy nails. Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day will help prevent nail breakage as well as keep you hydrated.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Massage moisturizer into your nails at least once a day, to keep your nails healthy.

And don't forget to cover up!

Prevent Nail Damage Before it Happens

Winter temperatures can really dry out and deteriorate your nails so make sure to slip on some warm gloves before you head out into the cold.

Added Bonus: There are some really cute mittens and gloves out there to finish off any look. Do you prefer gloves to mitts or vice verse? Let me know in the comment section below.

Don't forget to share the Glove Love with you friends.

Caio for now,
